Frequently Asked Questions


You can naturally use MyWebBar.com's basic functions, website search, see how sites are rated and if comments have been made about them, without registering.
However, if you want to take advantage of all the functions we have to offer:

  • quick access via the toolbar to “My Top30”,

  • “My tags”,
  • “My top bookmarks”,
  • “Categories”,
  • the option of uploading bookmarks from a PC,
  • rate and comment on sites
  • and much more,

then you should register.

In order to become a “WebBear”, simply click “Register” on the start page. There is also a link to the registration form on the start page.

Please enter your user name as well as your email address here. Your user name is visible to other users for e.g. ratings on MyWebBar.com.

You will immediately receive a confirmation email with your password that will allow you to activate your account and should be changed.

How do I change my password?

If you use freemail services (e.g. Yahoo, Gmx, Google, Arcor etc.), your confimation email may land in the
spam folder (unwanted emails). Please check your spam folder for an email from first.

If the mail is not in the spam folder either, then please click Request new password You will then receive a new password via email.

To ensure that each MyWebBar.com user actually gets their favorites and bookmarks and that other users do not have unauthorized access to information that you have not released.

Click the option “Request new password.” This can be found on the start page.

The toolbar installs automatically after the “ToolBarDownload" button has be clicked.

“toolbar.exe” is loaded onto your desktop after you have clicked the “ToolBarDownload” button.

Double click on “toolbar.exe” and follow the installation steps given.

MyWebBar.com is correctly displayed with Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.

If you use Internet Explorer 6, then graphic deviations may be displayed.

Did you active your pop-up blocker in your browser?

Please check under "Tools", "Pop-up blocker" to see if the "Turn-off pop-up blocker" option is activated.
If this is the case, then please click “Pop-up blocker settings” and enter www.MyWebBar.com.
Now just click “add” and the tool bar is installed. Please follow the installation information for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

It could be that your cookies in your browser my interfere with updating directly after installation.

You can do the following to take care of this problem:

  • Login to www.MyWebBar.com. The toolbar will automatically update with the login.
  • Delete the cookies in your browser.
    • In Mozilla Firefox go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Show cookies > Remove all cookies.
    • In Internet Explorer: Tools > Delete browsing history > Delete > Cookies.

I could be that you do not have the authority to make installations on your computer. If this is the case, then you would not receive an error message. This problem primarily occurs with Internet Explorer. If necessary, speak to the responsible administrator.

Your toolbar includes:

  • Your Top30,
  • your tags,
  • your top bookmarks
  • and the categories with your favorites.

There are several ways to remove a website from your "Top30."

Option 1: Under Toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” in your menu on MyWebBar.com. Select "Top30 settings." You can select the websites you would like to delete in the “Top30 links from …” list. If you click on “no Top,” then the selected websites will be removed from your “Top30.”

Option 2: Directly in the search results
A “Top30” button appears with every search result. If you would like to have a website added to your “Top30,” then you can find the "no Top" button in the same spot. Click this button and the website is removed from your "Top30." You also have the option of deleting a website with the “no Top” button under “Details.”

TIP: Click “Home” and then “Mine.” Here you will find all the websites that you have added to your “Favorites” and “Top30.”

There are several ways to add a website to your "Top30."

Option 1: Under Toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” in your menu on MyWebBar.com. Select "Top30 settings."
You can add a website that is already in your favorites or select it from the MyWebBar.com catalog under “Top30 add link.” In addition, there is a box with auto-complete (possible websites are displayed after the beginning letter has been entered). Click on the appropriate website and select “Add.” The website will then appear in your "Top30.”

Option 2: Directly in the search results
A “Top30” button appears with every search result. Click this and a moment later the appropriate website will appear in your "Top30." You also have the option of adding a website with the “Top30” button under “Details.”

Click “Toolbar settings” in your menu on MyWebBar.com. Select "Top30 settings."

You can select respective websites in the list "Top30 links from ..." and subsequently
move them with arrows in the selection box.

You can add or delete websites to your Top30 as well as change the order of the Top30 websites.
You can see websites in detail again and visit them directly.

You are always able to access all of your bookmarks on MyWebBar.com. You don’t have to think about or check whether you have saved bookmarks on your computer at home or work. You always have full access to your bookmarks. Websites do not have to be sent per email, in order not to forget website names. Click on it once and your bookmarks are always there for you.

Use the following steps to upload your bookmarks with Mozilla Firefox:

  • Bookmarks > Bookmark manager > File > Export

  • Save your bookmarks on your desktop for convienence.
  • Select the function “Upload bookmarks” under “My bookmarks.”

You can now select from the bookmark file on your desktop with "Browse." Please determine you type of bookmark and enter the CAPTCHA string.

“Top bookmarks” are bookmarks that appear on your toolbar. All other bookmarks can be found under "Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings" and "Edit bookmarks."

You have the possibility to enter “Top bookmarks” from “Upload/import bookmarks” or create a completely “New bookmarks” under "Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings," "Top bookmarks.”

“Top bookmarks” from “Import bookmarks”:
Click “Toolbar settings,” “Bookmark settings,” “Top bookmarks” and enter the name of the bookmark you have already upoloaded in the auto-complete field under "Add top bookmarks." By clicking the button “Add,” the relative website will appear in your “Top bookmarks.”

Completely “New” “Top bookmarks”:
Click “Toolbar settings,” “Bookmarks settings,” “Top bookmarks” and enter the name of the website you would like to find in your "Top bookmarks” in the search field under "Add new top bookmarks." Please enter the URL and click “Create.”

Click “Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings," "Top bookmarks." You will find a list of your "Top bookmarks” here. Select the bookmark that you would like to move and move it with the green arrow.

There are several ways to remove a "Top bookmark".

Option 1: Under "Top bookmarks"
Click “Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings," "Top bookmarks." You will find a list of your "Top bookmarks” here. Select the bookmark and delete is with the red “X” button.

Option 2: Under "All" bookmarks
Click “Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings," "Edit bookmarks." You will find a list of all “bookmarks" that you have saved on MyWebBar.com here. Select a “bookmark” that can also be found in your "Top bookmards," then it will be deleted from both lists simultaneously.

When you upload a bookmark, e.g. from your browser, it is saved with the URL. That in itself is not a problem, but if you could find your websites with shorter names, then it is naturally better laid out.

Click “Toolbar settings," "Bookmark settings," "Edit bookmarks." Select the website that you would like to edit and click "Edit bookmarks" once again. You have the possibility to change the bookmark name as well as the URL here. Do not forget to save changes.

You can specify which of your bookmarks are public at any time. Even enabled bookmarks can be disabled by you again. You can change the status of your bookmarks under “Toolbar settings,” “Bookmark settings,” “Release bookmarks.” You have the option of releasing "Private bookmarks" or to disable bookmarks again that have already been made public.

Public only means that other users can see that this website is designated as "Private bookmark" by some user, but not which user. Despite being public, you remain completely anonymous. This bookmark is displayed under “Bookmarks” in the website information about a website. It is only displayed if the respective website is represented in the MyWebBar.com catalog.

The tag cloud is a visual depiction of all our user generated tags.

That’s true, but let’s say your are interested in e.g. cars and you add a car magazine, online car auction
and because old cars are so nice, you add an old timer magazine to your categories as well.
Subsequently, your category tree looks like this:

Online car auction > Auto-Scout-24
Papers & magazines > Car & Motor > Car magazines > Motor sports
Old timer magazine > oldtimer-market.com

It much more important to realize that you aren't just interested in e.g. cars, right?
With one tag:

  • Cars

    You can access your favorites faster and they are easier to find.

Option 1: Directly on the website
Simply click “Details” if you have found a website on our portal that you would like to add to your “My tags.”
You will find the button “Tag” in the information about the website. Enter the name under which you want to save the website in “My tags” and a moment later the tag appears on your toolbar.

Option 2: Via Toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings,” "Tag settings,” “Tags.” Under operations, enter a name for your new “tag” here and press “Add tag.”

Option 1: Directly on the website
Click “Tags” and select the display mode “Private tags." Find the appropriate tag from your list of tags. You will find the symbol “Edit” next to the “Tag” symbol under “Details.” “Edit” is used for changing and deleting tags. The actual tag that you can delete is displayed in an extra window.

Option 2: Via toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” on the right side of the MyWebBar.com site and then “Tag settings” and/or “Tags.” Select the “tag” from the top in your personal tag cloud that you would like to delete. Now, information about this special “Tag" is displayed to you. At the bottom right of the page, you have the option of deleting the entire “Tag.”

Option 1: Directly on the website
Click “Tags” and select the display mode “Private tags." Find the appropriate tag from your list of tags. You will find the symbol “Edit” next to the “Tag” symbol under “Details.” “Edit” is used for changing and deleting tags. The actual “Tag” is displayed in an extra window for you. You can delete the website from the tag here.
ATTENTION: The tag remains, even without allotted websites.

Option 2: Via toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” on the right side of the MyWebBar.com site and then “Tag settings” and/or “Tags.” Select the tag from the top in your personal tag cloud that you would like to delete. Now, information about this special tag is displayed to you. Select the website under “Settings” that you would like to delete from the tag and click “Delete Website.”

Option 1: Directly on the website
Click “Tags” and select the display mode “Private tags." Find the appropriate tag from your list of tags. You will find the symbol “Edit” next to the “Tag” symbol under “Details.” “Edit” is used for changing and deleting tags. The actual tag is displayed in an extra window for you. You can enter a new tag name here. It is confirmed with “Rename.”

Option 2: Via toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” on the right side of the MyWebBar.com site and then “Tag settings” and/or “Tags.” Select the tag from the top in your personal tag cloud that you would like to rename. Now, information about this special tag is displayed to you. At the bottom of the page, next to "Operations for tag:...," you can enter a new tag name in the place where the existing tag name is. Subsequently click on “Rename tag.”

There are 2 options for adding a category.

Option 1: In the search results
If you’re “browsing” through interesting web sites and think that you like the category, then you have the option of directly adding this category here. You will find the button “Add category” right next to the “Only display favorites” button. When you have click this button and thus, subscribed to the category, the “Unsubscribe category” button appears here. When you add a category, subscribe to the 7 best websites in the corresponding category.

Option 2: Via toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” on the right side of the MyWebBar.com site and then “Category settings” and/or “Categories.” You have the option of selecting a category here with the aid of the auto-complete field and then “Add” this.

If you already have favorites, then this is displayed to you as a category tree here.

Option 1: In the search results
If you’re “browsing” through interesting web sites and think that you do not like the category, then you have the option of directly unsubscribing this category here. You will find the button “Unsubscribe category” right next to the “Only display favorites” button. When you have click this button and thus, removed to the category, the “Add category” button appears here. When you unsubscribe a category, all favorites in this category are deleted, even those you have added.

Option 2: Via toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings” on the right side of the MyWebBar.com site and then “Category settings” and/or “Categories.” Your favorites are displayed to you as a category tree here. Select the categories you want to delete from this and click on the red symbol next to the category. When you unsubscribe a category, all favorites in this category are deleted, even those you have added.

When you have reached the Karma status has reached “silver star,” then you can execute various update settings with the button next to the category tree under “Toolbar settings,” “Category settings” and “Categories.”

In order to find out exactly where a category is in the category tree, you can enter the respective category in the auto-complete field under “Toolbar settings”, “Category settings” and “Categories.” Click “Path” and the exact path to this (sub)category is displayed to you.

There are several ways to add a website to your favorites.

Option 1: In any search result
When you are looking at websites on MyWebBa.com. Simply click on “Add” and the website will be added to your “Favorites.” If you click “Details” and look at website information closer, you also have the option of clicking “Add” here as well.

Option 2: Via Toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings,” "Categories settings,” “Favorites.” Enter the name of the website you would like to add in the auto-complete field under “Add a website to your favorites” and click on add.

Option 1: In any search result
You have several options here as well.
When you are looking at websites on MyWebBar.com. If there is a website in your “Favorites” that you want to remove, you will see the “Del” button and you can delete the website from your favorites with this. If you click “Details” and look at website information closer, you also have the option of clicking “Del” here as well. If you want to delete all “Favorites” from a “Category”, then these are automatically removed, unless you have the “Keep update” function activated.

Option 2: Via Toolbar settings
Click “Toolbar settings,” "Categories settings,” “Favorites.” You will find a list of your "Favorites” here. Select the favorites that you would like to remove and click “Unsubscribe.” If you want to delete all “Favorites” from a “Category”, then these are automatically removed, unless you have the “Keep update” function activated.

Categories and their correlating interests are limited with one of our standard toolbars. It is easier to create your customized category tree with this basis. If necessary, you can adjust supplements or remove categories that do not appeal to you.

You can get an overview of your standard toolbar under “Toolbar settings,” “Miscellaneous” and “Toolbar profile.” You can find out which categories are in different toolbars.
Alternatively, you have the option of looking at toolbars that our users have created themselves and made public.

If you click on the greeen “i” button, the structure of this toolbar is displayed for you.

You have the option to select a toolbar profile for yourself under “Toolbar settings,” “Miscellaneous” and “Toolbar profile.” You can switch your toolbar profile at any time and make changes under “Categories.”

ATTENTION: If you select a standard toolbar, then all of your previous “Category settings” are lost!

You have the option of making changes at any time. You can make these changes in that you add or delete categories under “Toolbar settings” and the “Category settings” and “Categories.”

You can exchange your “Toolbar profile” at any time, but you should consider that by switching to another “Toolbar profile” you own category settings are lost.

Click “Toolbar settings,” “Miscellaneous” and here “Toolbar profile.” Activate the “Display toolbar publically?” function, in order for your “Toolbar profile” to be available to other users.

Edit your user data and settings and find out about your Karma ranking.

We ask these questions for your protection, so that you do not inadvertently unsubscribe to a category. If you would prefer, you do not always have to be asked whether you really want to unsubscribe. You can deactivate constant authentication mechanisms under “My profile,” “Edit” and “Account settings.”

If you have created your own category tree for your toolbar and you think other MyWebBar.com users may like it, then specify that your category tree should be made public in your profile settings (“My Profile,” “Edit” and “Account settings”). Other users see that a user has created this category tree, but this user is not specified exactly (they remain anonymous).

You can change your password by clicking “My profile” and “Edit” and “Account information.” Enter your new password. The second entry if for confirmation.

If you want to change the user language, please go to “My profile,” “Edit” and “Account settings,” as well as under “My profile” and “Language settings.”

You have the option of uploading a user picture, also called an avatar, by clicking on “My profile,” “Edit” and “Account settings.” You can e.g. use a picture that is already saved on your computer for this.

You can specify whether other users are allowed to contact you directly via MyWebBar.com under “My profile,” “Edit” and “Account information.” Other users are able to send you an email via your personal contact form.

You recommend something so that you are able to add websites that are not yet represented on MyWebBar.com to your favorites. At the same time, you are expanding MyWebBar.com. You also receive Karma points for every accepted recommendation. The more Karma you collect, the more options you get to use.

You can recommend new websites and names for categories.

Click on “My recommendations” and “Recommend new website.” You will be prompted to enter the URL and a short description of the website. Please select the category that your newly recommended site would fit in and decide whether the website should be added to your favorites immediately.

ATTENTION: The better the description, the more Karma you get.

We need at least an hour to review recommendations.

Click on “My recommendations” and “Recommend new website.” You will be prompted to enter the category name and a short description of the category. Select the language that the category should be appear in. Now, select a main category and decide whether the website should be added to your favoites immediately.

According to German legal status, all comments have to be reviewed before being released. Therefore, all comments made on MyWebBar.com have to go through a host review and are then made visible to all users. If changes are made to a comment released by us, then this and/or the changes are reviewed by us as well.

You rate websites in order to share your experience and opinion about these websites with other users.

You can give a rating of up to 6 stars and write a short summary. When you have reached the Karma rank of bronze medal (25 pts.), you have the option of writing a detailed rating, with regard to userfriendliness, design and speed. (detail is with link, screenshot, category, tags and rating scale)
There is a rating scale for every website, it is in the form of a start list. You can see how many userser have already left a rating here. You can leave a rating yourself by clicking on the stars.

The ratings are updated once every hour; therefore, you don't see changes to the ratings immediately after you have given your own rating.

You can make a comment and/or summary of a website when you click on “Details” in the search results. You have the option of writing a summary for the respective website here.

We always use 7 ratings as the basis for the rating. So, your rating counts if you e.g. were one of the first seven ratings. It doesn't matter whether it is about an overall or detailed rating here.

Click the MyWebBar.com symbol on the toolbar. Select the point “Uninstall” here and then follow the steps indicated.
Another option is that you take the following steps in Windows:
My computer > Control panel > Software. Look for “MyWebBar” and click remove.

Select “Extras” and “Add-ons” from the toolbar. Click on MyWebBar, then you can select between the options “Deactivate” and “Uninstall.”

TIP: When you enter a letterin a box, MyWebBar display the favorite you may be looking for with the help of auto-complete. The more letters you enter, the more exact the result.

Stars/rating You can see how many users have already left a rating here. Move your mouse cursor over the stars and submit a rating for a website yourself.
Category The category is shown here where this website can be found. If you click on a category name, like e.g. recreation, all the websites in this category are displayed.
Tags This is where you can view the selection of tags that are allocated to this link. You can find all tags that are provided with a website under “Details.” Click a tag and then all the websites will be listed that are provided for this tag.

Buttons on the detail site

Add/Del Simply click “Add” to add a website to your favorites. You can remove it by clicking “Del.”
Top30 Do you have websites that you use more than others? Simply add these with the "Top30" button to your "My Top30" and utilize quick access via MyWebBar toolbar.
Report If a link is damaged or leads to the wrong site, then you can inform us about it.
Tag Enter your own website groups with the help of tags.
Edit You can rename and delete your tags with "Edit."
Visit Visit the selected website.
My Ratings Move the mouse cursor over the stars. Yellow illuminated stars indicated the level of your rating. Select a star that correlates to your rating. The rating can be changed at any time.

Link information

Overall ratings Move the mouse cursor over the overall rating display (stars). This is how all the information needed for a detailed rating is displayed.
Address/screenshot If you click on the website address or screenshot, then you will be sent to the respective website.
Category The category is displayed here that has this website. If you click on a category name, like e.g. recreation, all the websites in this category are displayed.
Tags This is where you can get information about whether you have created a personal tag for the website or which tags other users have provided for this website. Click on these tags and discover similar websites.
Bookmarks This section indicates whether a user has made a bookmark public. These public bookmarks are naturally anonymous and only occur if the user wants it.
Last comment Read what other users have written about a website. Let us know if you found the comment helpful.
